Beautifully maintained and restored, Williamsburg brings the early days of Colonial America to life. From the Historic Jamestown archaeological site to the living history museum of Colonial Williamsburg, there’s a wealth of landmarks and historic homes that harken back to the earliest days of Colonial America. Around every corner you’ll stumble upon yet another colonial home, tavern, church, or plantation—all restored originals or accurate reconstructions. Names like Jefferson and Rockefeller have deep roots in Williamsburg, and many of the landmarks and old houses tell stories of the American Revolution and it’s founders. A shining example of early American history can be found exploring the campus of William and Mary College—the second oldest higher education institute in America, which boasts presidential alumni such as Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and John Tyler.
Besides offering an incredible amount of American history to be explored, Williamsburg also makes a great family destination. Amusement parks like Busch Gardens and Water Country USA will have your kids begging to come back year after year. For those looking to spend more time exploring the outdoors kayaking, hiking, ziplining, and more are also easily accessible. If things are sounding a bit too kid-friendly, don’t fret! There’s still plenty for the adults with breweries, a distillery, an award winning winery, and even a meadery right in town.
