In an area that is built up and hemmed in with hotels and private, no-go beaches, it's absolutely wonderful to find a natural, uncommercialized place to enjoy some quiet hours on the sand. If your travel plans give you some down time, spend some it of for the reason that people go to South Florida.
Nearly a half mile long, South Beach Park offers three swimming areas and the opportunity for surf fishing (but not in the same places, of course). Best of all, you won't have to put up with some of the annoyances you'll find on other beaches: Fires, alcohol and pets are not allowed and it is smoke-free. The only thing left to do is relax.
