A dynamic center for Japanese arts and culture, Morikama aims to serve the public with authentic and entertaining experiences that enlighten and inspire. The main museum building was designed after a traditional Japanese villa, with exhibition rooms encircling an outdoor rock garden courtyard. Over 7,000 Japanese art and artifacts are housed in the museum. Permanent exhibits include a history of Yamato Colony, a Japanese farming community active in South Florida about a century ago.
An expansive garden surrounds the museum structures, offering winding walking paths and peaceful areas for picnicking. Enjoy the impressive bonsai collection and koi swimming in the lakes. There is also a 225-seat theater, a genuine tea house, a research library and picturesque lakeside terraces that adjoin a lovely café.
