Footsteps of History

Outdoors lovers and history buffs alike will enjoy a ramble along the Lake Trail, a paved five-mile path edging Palm Beach's Intracoastal Waterway between Worth Avenue and Indian Road. Touted as the earliest road in Palm Beach, the Lake Trail stems from the vision of South Florida developer Henry Flagler. Ideal for walking, jogging, or bicycling, today's route is a feast for the eyes--from the glinting waters of Lake Worth to the exclusive mansions, some dating from Flagler's day.

You don't have to be part of Palm Beach's silk-stocking elite to enjoy the tropical sunshine and Lake Worth breezes of this well-moneyed barrier island. The Lake Trail gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the setting--and a bit of Gilded Age history.
