Be sure to include the annual Bloomsday Run in your travel plan if you're going to be in Spokane on the first weekend in May. This famous race began with a thousand runners in 1977 and has since grown to accommodate some 50,000 racers each year, along with scores of spectators. Watch the goings on from the beer garden, open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or walk the perimeter of the course during the race and check out some 30 bands playing everything from alternative rock to the oldies. The free post-race party at Riverfront Park features live music and food vendors. On the Friday and Saturday before the race, head over to the Spokane Convention Center for the huge Bloomsday Run trade show, which features the latest products, gear, and innovations in fitness, health and running.
