Ocean Beach is exactly what you might think, a public beach on the Pacific Ocean. Located along the Pacific Highway and next to the famous Cliff House and Sutro Baths, this scenic beach is a great place to picnic on a sunny day, simply take some beautiful photos, or daringly attempt to go for a swim. We say "daringly" because the waters here are very cold, even in the summer time. Still, if careful, the temperatures are bearable and many hardcore bay area swimmers love the challenge. This is also a good beach for experienced surfers when the waves are good (which is very sporadic). A favorite local pastime at Ocean Beach is having late night bonfires. Bonfires are not allowed just everywhere, so make sure you find one of the designated spots where they're permitted.
*IF you do choose to swim or surf BE CAREFUL! Ocean Beach has claimed more lives than locals care to admit.
