Overview

A beacon of culture in the stark and stunning Sonoran desert, Palm Springs has been a remarkable place for hundreds of years. Although the area was originally called “Se-Khi" (Cahuilla for boiling water), Palm Springs really got its start as a resort town—especially for those who had doctor’s orders for hot, dry climates. A bustling, bourgeois city soon emerged, and it’s been going strong ever since. Nowadays, Palm Springs is known for its majestic mid-century architecture, amazing outdoor attractions (like Joshua Tree National Park), and sophisticatedly lighthearted vibe; it’s a vibrant community that isn’t afraid to have a good time.

Whether you want to spend your days being pampered in one of the many spas, improving your game at one of the glorious golf courses, or hiking around the desert and fawning over its bewitching beauty, you’ll find yourself spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do. And Palm Springs isn’t short on dining options, either. With everything from decadent contemporary cuisine to steakhouses and mom & pop taco shops, you can consider your culinary bases covered. But whatever you do, don’t forget to do what got this place on the map in the first place: kicking back and relaxing.
