Although there are a number of whale watching tours available, Princess Monterey Whale Watching is popular for its large, stable vessels and the staff of marine biologists and naturalists who provide narration on the ecology and marine wildlife in Monterey Bay and further offshore. The tours, usually 2½ to 3 hours long, operate year-round, but the wildlife you would likely see depends upon the season: In the summer, some species of whales and porpoises feed in the bay itself, while the winter season is when gray whales are migrating far off shore.
Although the two vessels carry well over 100 passengers each, seating is limited. Children under 5 and expecting mothers are not permitted on the tours. Wear layered clothing, including a warm jacket, since weather conditions can change during a trip. Advance reservations and ticket purchases are strongly suggested.
