Monterey History

This beautiful two-story adobe building, built in 1847, houses exhibitions on the history of Monterey before California became a state. The first floor depicts the area during the Spanish and Mexican periods, while the second floor houses the Monterey Museum of the American Indian with examples of pottery, baskets and other Native American artifacts.

The docent-led tour provides an extra dimension to understanding these periods of Monterey history. You can also enjoy the fountain and pool in the building's courtyard and tour the Memory Garden.
