Overview

Monterey County is very much its own thing—a unique mix of eclectic and gorgeous. In its own way, it is still a cultural iconoclast of California, and while its aquarium is among the best in the world, you’ll find that there’s so much more to do here than gawk at fish. Golfers, hikers, wine connoisseurs, birders, and divers all have their own reasons to love it, and we know you’ll find yours. When you’re here, you’re enveloped by the natural beauty and engaged with the local culture. Monterey County is a place with class and style, but it’s also a place that’s begging to be explored and savored.

If you’re looking to explore more of what makes Monterey County so amazing, all you have to do is look around. Cradled between the awe-inspiring Pacific and the staggering Sierra Nevada Mountains, Monterey County boasts a myriad of outdoor adventures just waiting to dirty your boots. While you can go for a hike at Pinnacles National Park, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, or Los Padres National Forest, you can also take a Land Rover for a spin or go for a drive around Laguna Seca. Or, if you like your hikes a bit more manicured (and accompanied by a golf cart), you can always go sample Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay, or one of the other world renowned golf courses that speckle Monterey County’s countryside.

But Monterey isn’t all rough-and-tumble hikes and postcard-ready golf courses; you’ll also want to make sure you savor as much of the local flavor as you. Carmel has a fleet of wine tasting rooms as does Soledad to the east. You can also sample locally (and sustainably) harvested abalone, delicious Mexican cuisine, and have some supremely tasty sushi. Monterey County is a place that’s brimming with cultural and natural activities that are just waiting to be explored.
