Science is fun, exciting and endlessly fascinating. Best of all, it's a hands-on exploration that appeals to children, opening up an entire new view of the world around them. The Science Museum of Minnesota (established in 1907, making it one of the oldest children's science museums in the United States) covers all aspects of technology, natural history, physical science and mathematics, with many interactive exhibits. Even adults who have never had the opportunity to explore some of the sciences can find a new excitement in this wonderful museum. The number and variety of exhibitions are inspiring. Explore dinosaurs and fossils, the Human Body Gallery and the Mississippi River Gallery, where the natural history of the great river are described in every aspect. The Big Back Yard brings such subjects as soil science, erosion and ground pollution from the theoretical to the immediate surroundings a child's own home. Science Buzz helps visitors understand how science and engineering are used to provide such things as movie special effects to the electronic devices we take for granted. Be sure to visit the Omnitheater to see a movie about a variety of subjects, from sea life to volcanoes.
