At Zak the Baker, the focus is on quality bread and pastries. Zak Stern learned to make bread through the ancient art of natural leavening by leaving a piece of dough in the open air. From this mother dough, all other dough arises to make deliciously crusty selections from multi-grain to sourdough and rye.
But Zak loved food too much to just stop at baking bread. His café serves vegetarian sandwiches and salads, smoked salmon platters, as well as quiche and other baked goods like chocolate babka and cookies as big as your face. The food and baked goods here are kosher and every Friday they bake challah which is available on a first come, first serve basis.
