A Decaying Artistic Gem

This stadium is unique in that it was expressly built in 1963 to view power boat racing. It once was home to such events as the Unlimited Hydroplane and other special event races as well as concerts that took place on a floating stage.

After Hurricane Andrew, the building was considered unsafe and condemned in 1992. The stadium has since become a haven for graffiti artists and photographers wanting to get a panoramic view of the barrier islands.

The Friends of Miami Marine Stadium formed in 2008 and has undertaken an effort to restore the site which is considered a Modernist icon. It's not open yet and is generally guarded but if you ask nicely they might let you in to take a picture or two.
