Hiding behind this humble brick facade is a piece of Memphis history along with famous fried chicken. Napoleon and Maggie Vanderbilt started out more than 60 years ago, selling their meticulously crafted hot and spicy fried chicken from their tavern. The present location was built in 1973 partly by the local community out of sheer love of Na's hot and spicy chicken sandwich.
The Vanderbilt family still owns and operates the restaurant, which continues to use Grandma's priceless recipe. There are now several other restaurants that operate under the same name as part of a growing chain, and this is the proud original.
