It's hard to define the cuisine at Post & Beam, which was named one of the 101 best restaurants in Los Angeles by celebrated food critic Jonathan Gold. Chef Govind Armstrong got his start in the culinary arts at age 13, and was recently a guest judge on Top Chef. The food is a marriage of unlikely bedfellows American Southern and classical Italian, with gastropub and bistro influences thrown in. The high ceilings and wood-heavy décor give the place an intimate, rustic-modern vibe, and the soul music that's piped in makes you want to sway just a bit. The ingredients are farmer's market fresh, and many of the vegetables come from the on-site garden.
