Originator of the French Dip

Famous for its French Dips, Cole's is a Los Angeles relic that dates to the early 1900s. Its sandwiches and drinks are great, but most out-of-towners stop in to try the house specialty--the French Dip. There's also a hidden bar in the back called The Varnish that people invariably line up for. The bar has a speakeasy appeal and is a great addition to restaurant's overall pub vibe. Although you can get a great sandwich at a lot of places in LA, a lot of places don't have Cole's uniquely long history. As an iconic venue, it's worth checking out.
