History Inside and Out

Your journey into the compelling past of this seaside town begins before you even walk in the door. The museum is housed in the stately Elizabeth Milbank Anderson House, a historic building that dates from 1911. The house became the municipal art museum in 1957 and was renovated and expanded in 2000.

The museum's permanent collection includes more than three centuries of American and European artwork. A variety of mediums are represented and include ceramics, textiles, and sculptures along with conventional paintings from modern and contemporary artists.
