If you're looking for fancy-pants nightlife with laser lightshows and handcrafted cocktails, you might consider a destination other than Long Beach. But if you're looking to immerse yourself in small-town culture, head over to Long Beach Tavern, featuring dark corners, sports on the TV sets, a couple of pool tables and other bar stool sports, friendly bartenders pouring strong but inexpensive drinks, and a very informal atmosphere. This is a joint where you can't help but strike up a conversation with the locals, who know the bartenders by name and probably babysat their kids or dated their cousins back in high school. You may be so inclined to sing a tune during the karaoke they host every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 9PM. You'll probably have to get up and order your own drinks, but that's a small price to pay for a taste of quaint, small-town entertainment.
