Self-Guided Nature Trail

Fully accessible, appropriate for all ages and skill levels, the Rainbow Trail offers one of Lake Tahoe's most fascinating strolls. This is a short, paved, self-guided nature trail beginning at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center (open between Memorial Day and October) on the southern shore.

While feasting on grand views of the Sierra Nevada and wandering through beautiful meadows, marshes, and forest, you'll learn all about the region's stream ecology through well-designed signs and murals. A highlight is the Stream Profile Chamber, where you'll get a glimpse below the surface of Taylor Creek. In autumn, the underwater views are all the more exciting on account of the annual spawning shenanigans of kokanee salmon.
