This 61 mile cycling route takes you on a scenic journey through the heart of the Sierra Nevada from the town of Markleeville to Arnold. As the name suggests, the route hits an elevation peak at Ebbetts Pass at 8,757 feet. While certainly a challenging ride not for beginners, this ride is not all about the challenge. The gorgeous scenery along the way will provide a beautiful respite from the road ahead. In fact, in 2005, Ebbetts Pass was declared a National Scenic Byway.
Remember to be aware of cars, this route is along a highway that can, at times, twist and turn and become thin; however, the road conditions are fairly well maintained. If you simply wish to make it to Ebbetts Pass (and not all the way to Arnold), the ride is 18 miles with a 3,248 foot elevation gain (but that just means it's all downhill on the way back).
