A Meadow Meander

While Lake Tahoe is quite the stunner (and so, for that matter, are all of the other lakes that surround it), sometimes, you just want to wander through a meadow—and this one's a looker, too! While the Tahoe Rim Trail is over 17 miles long, this little stretch in Big Meadows shouldn't be too tough to tame, and should provide some pretty jaw-slackening views, too. So if you're feeling like a frolic through a meadow (or you're just down for a little change of scenery), you'll do well to have a bit of a meander through Big Meadows.

Utrip Tips

*The Big Meadow loop trail is only 1.4 miles round trip. However, if you are looking for a longer and more strenuous hike, continue on the Tahoe Rim Trail towards Grass Lake Trail and on towards Saxon Creek Trail (round trip 8.8 miles). For an even longer hike, continue towards Freel Meadows (round trip 10.8 miles).
*Local Mountain Biking Expert Ben Fish recommends riding to Dardanelles Lake: "Dardanelles Lake has crisp clear water and is surrounded by granite rocks. It’s a short but technical bike ride in from Big Meadow and has some great wildflowers along the way."
