A Century (Plus) of Flicks

By some measures, the Ruby is the longest continuously open movie theater in all of Washington State: quite the claim to fame, given it's tucked into the once-remote little town of Chelan in the sweeping foothills of the North Cascades. Opened in 1914, the Ruby retains much of its old-school charm--horseshoe balcony, tin ceiling--even as it's benefited from modern upgrades, including the addition of a digital projector in 2013. On the heels of a North Cascades backpacking adventure, a Lady of the Lake ferry cruise, or simply a walkabout in downtown Chelan, it's a joy to wander into this long-running cinema and catch the latest blockbuster.
