Sweep o' Time

For more than a half-century, the Kauai Museum has been interpreting the Garden Isle's long, rich, and dramatic backstory. Its exhibits--housed in a pair of distinctive lava-rock buildings--explain everything from the volcanic coming-of-age of this oldest and most weathered Hawaiian island to the human sagas it's hosted: Polynesian wayfarers, Hawaiian royalty, the missionary and plantation eras, World War II, and more.

Besides the interpretive displays, the museum includes a gift shop perfect for picking up a Kauai souvenir or three--including those iconic shell leis from the Forbidden Island of Niihau.
