Market Square Park has formed the pleasant public core of Houston since its establishment back in 1854, a gift to the city from its co-founder Augustus Chapman Allen. Part of Houston's Main Street/Market Square Historic District, the park includes artwork such as the Points of View sculpture and Malou Flato's tiled fountain and benches; Lauren's Garden, a 9/11 memorial named for Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas (who was aboard United Flight 93); and a pair of dog runs serving both large and small pooches. A longtime Market Square tradition is partaking of tasty Greek food at Niko Niko's, which also serves beer and wine. Greenspace gyros--not bad!
