Sunup & Sundown Monument

An enigmatic pillared square atop a grassy pyramid, Twilight Epiphany" Skyspace on the Rice University campus has elements of both an ancient monument and some futuristic launchpad. Actually it's one of a worldwide series of installations by artist James Turrell that use light displays to bridge earth and sky. "Twilight Epiphany" awakens its 40-minute-long LED spectacle at twilight, both morning and evening. Attending the shows is free but requires a reservation. Situated beside the Shepherd School of Music, the structure also serves as an acoustically refined performance venue and a "laboratory" for music students.
