If you're an experienced snorkeler and a strong swimmer, this is a great place for you to see a tremendous variety of marine life, including spotted eagle rays and majestic green turtles. Warm water produced by an inshore electricity power plant is piped out to sea at this point, which has earned it the nickname 'electric beach'. Get lucky and you might even be on hand to see a Hawaiian spinner dolphin, which are attracted to the balmy heated water too.
As this is not a sheltered spot, you may meet with strong currents but the water is extremely clear, even by lofty Hawaiin standards. If you aren't feeling confident in the open water, a snorkel boat tour that includes 'Electric Beach' will give you the peace of mind to keep your eye on local marine life, knowing that someone has their eye on you.
