Overview

Blending a laid-back beach-going vibe with a hip, metropolitan attitude, Fort Lauderdale strikes a warm and sunny balance between low key and high energy. If you’re looking for a full spectrum of fun in the sun, this is your place. Whether you want work your way through the clubs, or the only thing you want to work on is your tan, Fort Lauderdale has activities aplenty to keep you occupied—and quite few places where you can hang out and do absolutely nothing.

You want beaches? Oh, there are beaches. And if you’re looking to get outside (and maybe take the family along), the legendary Everglades are close by. Or, if you’re more here for shopping’s sake, head to Las Olas Boulevard and explore the shops. And don’t forget to stop at some of the bars and restaurants while you’re there. And for the finer things, there’s always the NSU Art Museum, art galleries, and a smattering of museums (like a classic Packard museum and the Historical Society) to check out, too. And when the sun goes down, you’ll do well to stick around. Whether you’re into dives, blues bars, outdoor clubs, local band haunts, cigar bars, beach bars, or beer gardens, you’ll be a bit spoiled for nocturnal—and daytime—choice.

As you would expect from such a fun-loving place, the food here is pretty spectacular. From tiny little Lebanese places to hip-as-heck taco spots (and of course some quality Cuban cuisine) you’ll have no problem getting a few delectable bites on the cheap. If you’re looking for more sophisticated options, Market 17, Casa D’Angelo, and Hardy Park Bistro are all fantastic ways to spend a little extra dough on splurgeworthy premium dining. You may also find yourself wanting to wash it all down with one of the area’s microbreweries—and with weather like Ft. Lauderdale’s, who could blame you?!

Fort Lauderdale is a great place to mix some fun in the sun with a little bit of culture and cuisine. From beach bums to nonstop partiers, and from shopaholics to bird watchers, Fort Lauderdale has plenty to offer just about anyone who’s looking for a good time. It’s a place to relax and re-energize, and—whether it’s by kayak, paddle board, or bike—it’s also a place to get out and explore. In fact, there's so much to see here, you may find yourself leaving with a few more hobbies—and quite a few memories, too.
