One of the many stunning geographic landforms near Flagstaff, the San Francisco Peaks are all that remains of a once mighty and destructive volcano, San Francisco Mountain. The peaks themselves are within the Coconino National Forest and are snow capped from October through May.
There are six peaks on the mountain, within this range, and all of them are extinct volcanoes as far as we know. An aquifer within the mountain's caldera supplies most of Flagstaff's water, and many visitors and locals come here to go hiking or skiing. Winter visitors can stop by the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort, one of many recreational facilities on the mountain range.
