Monument Valley is home to some of the most extraordinary rock formations in the world. Located near the Four Corners Area, Monument Valley is part of the Colorado Plateau and has featured heavily in film depictions of the Old West.
The rock formations, some of the most photographed natural attractions on the planet, range in height between 400 and 1,000 feet. The graceful red buttes and mesas attract thousands of hikers and tourists each year. The valley is located within the Navajo Nation and can only be accessed by Highway 163. If you want to visit sites within the valley that aren't part of the tourist loop, you must hire a Navajo guide - it's worth it, however, with a wealth of additional sites to behold behind the scenes.
