Overview

A respite between the tech-crunching cultural capital of the Bay Area and California’s capital city of Sacramento, the Diablo Valley surrounding Concord packs in adventure, relaxation, and a few surprises you may not have seen coming. With everything from amazing shopping to hikes with miles of natural eye candy, you’ll be swimming (or trekking) in options for places to discover.

As you might expect for a place perched in the shadow of the besotting Mount Diablo (and its accompanying state park), the outdoors here are just begging to be explored. And with other places like the John Muir National Historic Site (which is also brimming with hikes) and Briones Regional Park, you’ll definitely want to bring your hiking boots along. And if hiking isn’t your thing, check out Todos Santos Plaza and Broadway Plaza for some of the best shopping in the East Bay. Of course there's always Waterworld, too. And when you’re ready to call it a day, kick back and throw back a cold one with one of the area’s craft brewery’s concoctions.

And when you’re ready to get your grub on, you’ll have quite a few options as well. From modern american gastropubs to classic Italian spots, you’ll have plenty of ways to fill up. And since you’re close to some of the best wines in the world, why not sample some of Napa and Sonoma’s finest while you’re here? What’s more, there a few local glasses you’ll be able to sample as well.

Whether you’re hoping to whizz through the canopiesbarrel down a river, or kick back, relax, and maybe do a little shopping, Concord and the surrounding Diablo Valley should be just the respite you need. From the beautiful waterfront views to scenic and mountaintop vistas to the local culture, there’s plenty to discover in Concord—and for that matter, there’s plenty to come back for, too!
