With both a comprehensive collection and an active program of temporary exhibitions, the museum offers a broad view of modern art. Still, visitors are equally divided, from strong patrons to those who just shrug at the offerings. At the very least, the museum provides a view of the view of contemporary art in this part of the United States. Founded in 1968, this museum has had a number of homes before settling in what was once a Sears store (and how much more Midwestern can that be?), but with upgrades that makes the architectural space entirely fitting to its collection. Their public programs (the motion picture series is especially famous) and a wonderful gift store, make this an attractive place to visit for locals and out-of-town visitors alike.
