It can never be said too often: Chicago is a city of neighborhoods. What sets the West Loop apart, however, is that it is an area of several neighborhoods, all retaining their historic identities while still moving forward to develop into a new, melded community.
The site of historic Greektown and Little Italy, you'll still find the great little restaurants, stores and shops that have made this area famous. Meanwhile, a new generation is moving in, opening up boutiques, galleries, shops, coffee houses and loads of new restaurants boasting inventive modern cuisine. If you're visiting Chicago, by all means enjoy time in the Loop, but don't neglect to go just a little farther west to see a completely different part of the city.
