An Ever-Changing Tradition

The lower west side of Chicago has long been an area where recent immigrants have settled. A century and a half ago, the residents of this neighborhood were predominantly from Eastern Europe (hence the name "Pilsen"), but now the area is home to a tight-knit Mexican-American community blended with students and younger artists from various backgrounds.

Explore this vibrant neighborhood, famed for its murals. You can also try one of the many restaurants offering authentic Mexican food or spend time in an independent coffee shop. While in the Pilsen area, be sure to visit the National Museum of Mexican Art.
