The lower west side of Chicago has long been an area where recent immigrants have settled. A century and a half ago, the residents of this neighborhood were predominantly from Eastern Europe (hence the name "Pilsen"), but now the area is home to a tight-knit Mexican-American community blended with students and younger artists from various backgrounds.
