The Uptown district is a diverse, central part of the city. Many residents, confusingly, call it "downtown" but the area is also known as the "center city." However it may be called, Uptown comprises four city wards, each with its own personality but, together, comprising the central area of Charlotte.
The First Ward is home to the campus of the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, which provides the urban college feature to the neighborhood. Second War, also commonly called the "government district" also includes the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
