Taza Chocolate makes chocolate lovers swoon with their unrefined, minimally processed chocolate made from stone ground organic cacao beans. Founder Alex Whitmore tasted stone ground chocolate for the first time while in Oaxaca, Mexico and was hooked. He started his own stone ground chocolate factory in Somerville, Massachusetts after having undergone an apprenticeship under a molinero, or miller, in Oaxaca.
Taza is dedicated to sourcing cacao ethically and is a pioneer in this endeavor. Visit the factory and take a tour and watch them take bean to bar as they make the chocolate. Then head over to the Taza Chocolate Bar at the Boston Public Market to experience stone-ground chocolate drinks from traditional hot chocolate to stone ground chocolate shots and ice blended drinks. They also sell their chocolate disks here but the hot cocoa steals the show.
