An Uncommon Commons at City Hall

This open public space in the Government Center complements Boston's City Hall and is home to annual public events like the Boston Calling Music Festival, Boston Pride Festival, and the Big Apple Circus.

The irregularly shaped red brick and concrete plaza was designed by the architectural firm Kallmann McKinnell & Knowles in 1962 and is comprised of multiple levels. Enjoy an outdoor concert or a brief rest stop here after visiting City Hall. This plaza was modeled after the Piazza del Campo in Italy and since 1968 has gone through improvements suggested by citizens, students, and architects in the area.
