Hard to imagine a better place to be on a summer's day in Billings than Lake Elmo, a 64-acre parkland reservoir smack dab in the city. The waters are open to non-motorized boating, so this is a perfect place to slip the canoe or kayak in for a pleasant urban paddle, and meanwhile Roger's Pier offers anglers the opportunity to cast for trout, catfish, crappies, perch--even tiger muskies. With swimming beaches and a playground, Lake Elmo State Park is family-friendly as can be. It's also pooch-friendly: A 200-square-foot fenced-off dog park lies on the western shores of the reservoir.
