The best things in Billings are outside the city limits - but don’t treat that as an indictment against the city - while Billings has plenty to offer in town, it serves as the perfect gateway to some of the most spectacular natural wonders that Montana has to offer. Gorgeous Lake Elmo is the undisputed summertime state park destination, offering family friendly fishing and peaceful kayaking or paddle boarding. If you’re looking to travel a bit further afield, Bighorn Canyon National Park proves the perfect destination for nature junkies looking to get out into the wild (keep your eyes peeled for wild horses - watching these majestic beasts roam the plains is an experience that is simply unforgettable).

History buffs rejoice, Billings is the gateway to a number of old west expansion gems. From Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument documenting Custer’s Last Stand to Pompeys Pillar National Monument featuring artifacts from Lewis and Clark’s western expansion to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, the region is absolutely heaving with American expansion landmarks and history.

After all that action out in the country, you’ll be looking for a little respite in town. Check out a little local history at Moss Mansion, or explore the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame and soak in a little local culture. When your batteries are recharged, you’ll be ready to take on a trail of a different sort - the Billings Walkable Brewery District. While it’s currently strictly unofficial (wink wink), the Billings Chamber of Commerce has seen fit to create a walking map of the route detailing the best path to try a drink at all eight of the delicious local breweries and distilleries on the trail.

Billings thrives on an adventurous spirit, so the question is simple - where will your Billings adventure take you?
