Right near downtown Austin, you can find a peaceful oasis. Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is a tree-filled natural space with a small river and a waterfall. It's a great place to hike and it's easily accessible in a car, with a parking lot near the trailhead.
The trails are well-marked and fairly easy to hike although good sturdy shoes make sense as it's a bit rough under foot. The total distance you can hike here is said to be two and a half miles although some comment that's a generous estimate. A cool and shady place on a hot day.
