South Austin Institution

You can't get much more hardcore Texas in Austin than Hill's Café, born of iconic local rancher Charlie Goodnight's chuckwagon eats and established initially back in 1947. To say the place is still going strong is an understatement: It's something of a pilgrimage site in South Austin, a place to lay into some top-of-the-line Texas beefsteaks (and other victuals) while enjoying, certain beloved nights of the week, some live music to boot.

Between the hot fiddles and steel guitars on stage and the Southern-style comfort food populating the menu, Hill's Café pretty much hits the spot for a certain kind of out-on-the-town Austin evening.
