An Off-Leash Area Within Austin's Favorite Park

Sprawling between Palmer Auditorium and Lady Bird Lake, for more than half a century the Auditorium Park has been a favorite place for Austin residents to relax, play, enjoy outdoor music events and, of course, give their dogs a chance to romp and play. Since the major re-design and development of the park as a whole in the early 2010s, the dog park has been improved, with a nice wooden fence that separates the official off-leash area from the rest of the park. You and your dog - or dogs - can enjoy yourselves, but be aware that outside the area you must have them on-leash or face a stiff fine.

As fun as the dog park is, don't neglect to explore the rest of the park. The east lawn (now named Vic Mathias Shores) is a venue for concerts and the annual Fourth of July celebration. Be sure to visit the new Liz Carpenter fountain. Bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy a sunny Texas day.
