Geology, history, and entertainment all bat for the same team at Stone Mountain Park, one of the most well-known tourist attractions in Georgia. The landform in question is a monumental dome of quartz monzonite, the crown of which--reached by a one-mile hiking trail or the Summit Skyride gondola--delivers some pretty spectacular panoramic views. The north wall of the monolith includes the biggest bas-relief carving on the globe, a famous depiction of a trio of Confederacy notables: Generals Robert E. Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson as well as Confederate President Jefferson Davis. This is also an all-out amusement park with the SkyHike treetop adventure course, the Geyster Towers funhouse, weekend lasers shows, concerts, and a variety of other family-friendly delights.
