There are very few authentic dhow-building yards left in Dubai, other than one located in the district of Jaddaf. If you're in luck when you make a visit, you can catch traditional craftsmen hard at work building marvelous teak and shesham wood dhows. Their carpentry techniques originate from a bygone era, with few adaptations for contemporary times.
This is not a site designed with tourists in mind, so tread gingerly and watch out for tools lying around when you wander. Many of the carpenters will be happy to explain what they're doing and show off their skills.
