By Sultan's Request

Designed by Mimar Sinan, the Ottoman empire's most notable architect, the magnificent Suleymaniye mosque stands as the largest mosque in all of Istanbul. It's certainly one of the most recognized structures in Turkey and a must-see for every visitor to the ancient city.

Built under the decree of a sultan known as Suleyman the Magnificent, the remarkable structure comprises towering minarets at each of the four corners of the courtyard. It is worth noting that only sultans were allowed to build mosques with four minarets; princes were allowed only two.

Utrip Tips

*We recommend that you avoid visiting the mosque right after call to prayer unless you intend to visit the mosque for religious purposes. Likewise, from noon to mid-afternoon on Friday's is considered the muslim holy-day and out of respect, please avoid visiting during this time.
