Historic Landmark Attraction

The Queen's Staircase is a major historic landmark located within the Fort Fincastle Historic Complex in Nassau. The steps were carved out of the limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794.

Although the staircase is known as the 66 steps, the bottom step has since been buried under asphalt. The original limestone steps are also now faced with brick to protect them from erosion. The remaining 65 steps climb 102 feet up the limestone tree-lined canyon from downtown Nassau as a direct route to Fort Fincastle.
