Native Bahamian Antonius Roberts is one of the most famous artists in the country, working in wood, marble and paint. In addition to his own work, he has provided inspiration for local artists; for more than a quarter of a century, he has been a driving force behind the Annual Art Competition and Exhibition sponsored by the Central Bank of the Bahamas.
If you are visiting the Bahamas, take the time to visit his studio at Hillside House. Located on Cumberland Street, just a block and half south of the Pompey Museum at the western end of Bay Street, it is worth a long, careful afternoon of appreciation.
