Unspoiled History

A splashing fountain, a domed basilica, a Renaissance-era government building, and the attractive backside of Valencia Cathedral all contribute to the considerable charm of Plaza de la Virgen. From a seat on the fountain's edge or at an outdoor café, you can watch an eclectic mix of buskers, business people, and families go about their business. When you're done people-watching, take a peek at the spectacular ceiling fresco inside of the Basilica de la Virgen de los Desamparados (as beautiful as the name is long), then head across the square for a view of the Palau de la Generalitat, home base of the Valencian government since 1421.
