Hall of Records

If you insist that libraries and dark, dusty archives can be sexy, then you were born to quietly stroll these luminous halls. The grand Lonja building, originally home to a vibrant merchants' exchange at the height of Spain's empire, has been holding the exclusive record of the entire history of the Spanish Empire in the Americas and the Philippines since 1785. Unsurprisingly, the Archivo General de Indias was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1987. In all, there are over nine kilometers of shelving to beckon your inner librarian. Unfortunately, not much of it is on display to visitors, but there is an informative video on Spain's mercantile history and a few displays about the Age of Discovery.
