The Andalusian Contemporary Art Center is located on the site of the Monastery of Santa Maria de las Cuevas (or Monastery of the Charterhouse), a shrine to an image of the Virgin Mary that was found on the site and also former home of Christopher Columbus' remains. These days, it's a national monument.
At the Center for Contemporary Art, you'll find regular activities being held to promote the creation of contemporary art, such as exhibitions, workshops and seminars. It's also not uncommon to find concerts, recitals and film showings being held here. It's a nice way to get a sense of the local art scene while also getting a chance to see some preserved historical architecture and artifacts.
