Miro Modern Art

Beautiful beaches aren’t Mallorca’s only claim to fame: Joan Miró, the artist best known for his surrealist paintings, lived in Palma for much of his life and eventually died there. Before he died, he started the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation, a museum dedicated to his art works and to the inspiration of young artists. He donated many of his own drawings, paintings, and sculptures, but there is also work by some other artists as well as students. The building itself, designed by architect Josep Lluis Sert, is worth a look for modern architecture enthusiasts, while the peaceful gardens offer a quiet place to reflect. In addition to the museum, visitors can view Miro’s house and studio.
